Jocul luminii

The Light Between is an independent film, the first one from a trilogy that is dedicated to Kammerspielfilm aesthetics. It tells, in a natural way, about the simple things in life; about those things that are sometimes unbearably complex in their apparent simplicity. Its architecture is based on the narrative structure inspired by the play There Are No More Cherries for Dinner by Teodora Herghelegiu, and the psychological journey of the characters is one that any viewer can identify with: most of us have experienced the parent-child confrontation at some point (on one side or the other of the barricade); a confrontation essentially linked to the differences between worlds and the conviction of both sides that they are on the right track, in an irreconcilable subjectivity. Johnny Stone, a Romanian living in New York for over 20 years, returns to his homeland to meet his father, who's in a nursing home. Paul, a former actor, was left disabled after a stunt had gone wrong. He has chosen to live out his days in a far, isolated village and categorically refuses his son's proposal to relocate to New York. After a lifetime of conflict and non-communication, the doors of the "closet" are opened and the skeletons are brought out into the open. The son is about to get married, but the father announces the same thing about himself. In a tragicomic turn of events, the two settle their scores. The appearance of Dora (Paul's future wife) turns the situation upside down, creating much tension and revealing an unexpected truth, causing Paul to suffer a stroke. Will he survive this accident?
